Annual AIA Membership Continuing Education Requirements
18 Learning Units | 12 in Approved HSW Topics

AIA members are required to meet continuing education requirements every year to maintain their membership with the organization. These continuing education requirements are often in addition to a state’s CE requirements for renewing your license. If you are an architect working towards getting a license in your state, some AIA-approved courses can count toward your licensure.

AIA and State Requirements for Continuing Education

Depending on the state in which you are licensed to be an architect, you may require anywhere from 5-36 hours of continuing education, 75% of which must cover “Health, Safety, & Welfare” topics.

Find your state’s requirements for continuing education on the AIA website.

How the AIA Measures Continuing Education

Continuing education is measured in Learning Units (LUs), where one hour of continuing education earns an architect one LU. All AIA Architect and International Associate members are required to complete 18 LUs from registered AIA/CES providers every year. 12 of the 18 LUs must be in the topic areas of health, safety, and welfare, and all credits must be finished by the end of each year.

Still have LUs to earn by the end of the year? Schedule your course with CAMBEK today!
