We Handcraft Our Garage Doors, Entry Doors, Gates, and Shutters Using Quality Natural Wood
Nothing beats the natural beauty of wood doors. In a world filled with composites, plastics, steel, and other industrial-looking and cold-feeling materials, wood brings a timeless aesthetic and natural warmth to any home or business.
When it comes to wooden garage and entry doors, the materials matter. At CAMBEK, we’re proud to construct our custom garage doors, entry doors, gates, and shutters from natural wood, selecting only the finest and most high-quality species.
You don’t have to be a professional craftsman to see and feel the difference between high-quality wood and cheap lumber that is manufactured in mass quantities. We’ve sourced two of the best types of wood to use in our doors, gates, and shutters.
A clear Douglas fir frame lies at the heart of our wood garage doors. Despite fir being in its name, Douglas fir trees are an evergreen conifer species native to western North America. It’s a member of the pine family, making it a solid, sturdy, and easy to craft material. It’s also naturally resistant to mold and insect damage.
Years ago, our founder discovered that garage doors using this type of wood as a core material lasted longer and performed better, and we’ve been using it ever since.
The material withstands high tension and compression, making all our garage and entry doors structurally sound.
The material is classified as a “softwood,” which means it can be shaped by our craftsmen to achieve complex and customizable designs on every door.
We further protect our Douglas fir garage door frames by embedding borate rods into them.
Clear Western Red Cedar is used to craft the custom surface and millwork on our garage doors and entry doors. Western Red Cedar is an ornamental timber from the cypress family native to North America. The material has many natural remittances and maintains a strong durability throughout its life.
It’s less likely to warp, shrink, or cup with changes in temperature and humidity. It’s ideal for humid coastal areas, northern states with bitter-cold winters, and the hot, dry deserts of the Southwest.
The wood is pitch and resin-free, which means it can hold a wide variety of finishes, including stains and paints.
The material is naturally resistant to rot, insects, and decay.

Clear grade wood is considered the highest quality wood in terms of appearance and uniformity. This is because the lumber is mostly free of defects like knots, splits, or cracks. The lumber has a smooth, unblemished surface that holds finishes well. It is the best-looking wood you can get for any garage door, entry door, or gate.
All the wood we use goes through a rigorous selection process to ensure it meets strict standards for quality and appearance, ensuring it has the best:
* Although wood is a natural insulator, we also add a 1 3/8” piece of polystyrene into the interior of our custom garage doors, providing an extra layer of insulation to help with energy efficiency and comfort.
